Defective Security Roller Shutter at Poundland

Desperate Poundland customers longing for a bargain were forced to crawl into a local store as a security shutter was stuck.

Shoppers of a variety of ages were seen getting on their hands and knees in front of the store in St Albans, Hertfordshire on Sunday.

Dozens passing by couldn't believe what they were watching, as one elderly man really struggled to bend over.

It took him a few seconds to touch the ground, and shuffle inside the store, as his partner using a wheelchair was forced to wait outside.

As one family approached the store an onlooker shouted, asking them to give the elderly man his bag.

The person said: "Excuse me, that is his bag if you wanted to pass it to him."

One man appeared shy after he read the note, but keen to get inside, he looked around in an apparent bid to see if anyone was watching him, before he crawled down.

The note on the shutter said: "Dear customers,

"Our shutter is broken, we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused, we will open today as soon as the problem is fixed. Thank you."

A handwritten message below read: "If you can crawl inside, we are still open!"

A second printed message said in capital letters: "We are still open, just crawl in! Mind the head."

Craig Shepheard who recorded a video of the incident, can be heard saying: "Poundland is actually open today but their roller shutter door is stuck. So customers have to crawl under in order to get into the shop."

A spokesman for Poundland said: “The dodgy door was fixed within hours, but it shows how keen Poundland shoppers are to bag a bargain.”
